D´Artagnan
D´Artagnan, the movie’s hero musketeer.
The main role is played by young actor Justin Chambers who, at the time, was only 31 years old and had just worked on the comedy film The Wedding Planner (2001), debuting in January of the same year. The strange story of this young man starts at the metro. He was spotted by a scout and went on to model for Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani all over Europe. After some major movie roles in the early 2000s, he made appearances on Grey´s Anatomy (2005) as Dr. Alex Karev, and the thriller The Zodiac (2005) as an obese police detective. He is a father of five children.
Febre
Febre
The main villain role is shared between Tim Roth and Stephen Rea as Febre and Cardinal Richelieu. Roth had already played important roles in three Quentin Tarantino movies, gaining international fame in the early nineties. His filmography is astonishing; he has been acting in up to five movies every year, almost non-stop since 1984, when he got nominated for the BAFTA award for Best Newcomer.
Cardinal Richelieu
Veteran Irish actor Stephen Rea played a key role as the regretful cardinal who realizes he’s gone too far in the middle of the movie. His first big hit was The Crying Game (1992) in which he played the role of Fergus, and for which he got an Academy Awards nomination for Best Actor. Soon after that he played the role of Santiago in Interview with the Vampire (1994). He´s had a great career up until now, with some big roles and appearing in up to four movies every year.
Francesca
Francesca, main female character.
The main female character is played by Mena Suvari, the beautiful American actress who began her career as a model in the early 1990s and then made the tricky transition to the big screen with the hit movie American Beauty (which granted her a BAFTA award nomination) and blockbuster American Pie, which both premiered in 1999. After The Musketeer in 2001 she continued acting, making appearances in at least one movie a year. She has also worked very closely with Amref Health Africa which is the largest non-governmental international organization with a base in Africa.
The Queen
The film’s royal Queen at the dining table.
The French film star Catherine Deneuve played the role of the queen. She is also a singer and a model and her career needs no introduction, including work with directors such as Buñuel, Truffaut and Roman Polanski, among many others. The role she played in the movie was not the main female character, but she can nevertheless be thought of as the heavy-weight movie star, attracting audiences with her name alone.
